Drawing 8 of 50: Still Life Drawing

still life food

Here is yet another drawing of some items that I really enjoy eating. There is a tonic you can to helpĀ  digestion mixing the lemon squeezed into honey and ginger powder. It’s easy to makeĀ  and the local honey can help with allergies. For this piece I simply took a photograph and copied it which only took about 20 minutes to draw. For pieces like this I’m trying to figure out how to economize line hierarchy, and keep it simple and direct because I have a tendency to go overboard with the cross hatching. As is generally the case, less is more and that is what I’m trying to shoot for.

Drawing 7 0f 50: Second Chance

In art, there is such a thing as a second chance, and a third, fourth etc…. That’s why I love creating because you can look at the same thing a thousand different ways and still not scratch the surface. So on this version of basic still life I made the shadows of the lemon the contrasting color of yellow which is blue. Then I blended the blue with yellow and brown which are some of the colors in the palette. I also implemented an outline on each of the subjects. This is a common illustration practice to help make something pop more. If I was to add more line work I would then follow sort of a “line hierarchy” method with the outline being the thickest and all interior lines lesser according to structure and emphasis. pastel art
